I love the Liebster Award. I met some of my favorite blogs and closest blogging friends through my previous Liebster nomination. I am so thankful for this opportunity to meet new bloggers and connect bloggers I know with each other. For this Liebster Award, I would like to nominate the following blogs:
The start of my blog was pretty spontaneous actually. I didn’t put any planning into it, or read any books, or talk with other bloggers about their experiences. I had thought about starting a blog because I enjoy writing, I needed a way to connect with other moms, and I needed a creative outlet that was all my own. So one day, I sat down, registered my blog, and now here I am!
How did you name your blog?
When I started my blog, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to write about. I wanted to keep the name of my blog generic so as not to put me in one blogging niche or another, so I decided to use my name. When I was married, my last name changed to Johnson, the second most common last name. That’s pretty boring. It was a little hard for me to go from my maiden name, that I had pride in and identified with, to Johnson. I’ve been learning to find my new identity as a Johnson, a wife, and a mother, while still making light of the fact that there are three million other Johnsons in this country alone. You probably know at least one family of Johnsons, but we’re not those Johnsons. We’re the other ones. Thus the name, The Other Johnsons.
My first piece of advice is to join link parties and blog hops. That’s a great and consistent way to meet and connect with other bloggers you don’t know. I would also say that if you want followers, you have to interact with other bloggers. Don’t just expect people to read and comment on your blog. You have to get out there and interact with people.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m a cat person who owns a dog. My husband is allergic to cats, so for the rest of my life I will be a closet cat person.
I’ve been to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. I can’t pick a favorite.
What is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is to travel across Europe while spending some extra time in Italy, Greece, and Switzerland.
What is the last movie you watched?
The last movie I watched was Jupiter Ascending. But it was so dumb I didn’t finish it, so I’m not sure if that counts. The last movie I actually finished was The Choice.
What is one of your favorite books?
I love reading so this is a hard question for me. I would say that a couple of my favorites are The Lord of the Rings trilogy, A Tale of Two Cities, and Pride and Prejudice.
What advice would you give your 16 year old self?
Where ever you are and whatever you do, just proudly be yourself. If you try to be like everyone else, you’re just a dime a dozen. The only person who can be uniquely you, is you. It doesn’t matter what you do or who you are, everyone has a hater. So you may as well be someone who is proud of yourself with haters, than hate yourself as much as your haters do.
By this time next year, where do you hope to be? What do want to have accomplished?
By next year, my main goal is to have bought and moved into our own house. I hope to stay in the area we are in, have built a solid community of friends at my new church, and be preparing for an awesome 5th anniversary celebration with Aaron (our anniversary is in a few days). I also want to be making solid plans for our second child. In regards to my blog, I hope to still be consistently blogging, be self hosted with a customized website, and have a significant amount of followers.
